Acne Studios Channels the New York Dolls for Its Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

Acne Studios has been killing it in 2015. And it looks like next year will be just as good.

For its Spring/Summer 2016 release, the Scandinavian brand is continuing its emphasis on minimalist designs, but with its customary twist to time-honored basics. For this go-around, creative director Jonny Johansson added an element of androgyny to the range, which was inspired by one of his favorite bands from the 1970s.

“I have always loved the New York Dolls, and a friend of mine used to play with Johnny Thunders,” Johansson said. “I was inspired by the rawness of their unisex approach to dressing in ‘70s New York.”

Though Acne has retained its ultra-clean aesthetic for Spring/Summer 2016, it has taken things to the next level through exaggerated silhouettes—like an elongated knit; off-beat fabric textures—like the patent leather tee; as well as stand-out prints—most notably the abstract patterns by surfboard artist Robin Kegel.

As you can see from the lookbook, the collection has a distinct glam-rock vibe, which is underscored by wide-leg trousers, relaxed jumpsuits, and, of course, platform boots.
