Film: Die Hard

Sometimes it seems like only tough dudes can thrive in the holiday season. These few weeks, after all, can be the bloodiest time of the year. John McClane embodies the badassery necessary to get through days full of holiday songs, cold weather, and bitching family members. A wife beater and rugged chinos are absolute staples in any wardrobe, and can stand up to whatever the holidays throw your way. While the holidays are a lot about show and appearances on the surface, McClane reminds us that we can't forget about function.

Film: Elf

Buddy's holiday spirit may have intially annoyed cynical, modern-day New Yorkers, but his spirit and wardrobe soon converted the haters. A green jacket with white fur trim is a bold choice at any time of the year, but combined with the gold detailing, that shit is legitimate fire. The yellow tights are probably the only thing keeping Buddy from landing near the top of this list, but everything else is such heat it's remarkable he didn't melt Santa's Workshop.

Film: A Christmas Story

Ralphie Parker had some of the best seasonal gear out there. Chunky, oversized knits dominated the mid century 'fits, which were always finished off with cozy accessories... and a Red Ryder BB gun. Through a tumultuous Christmas era that was spent dodging bullies and being told he was going to shoot his eye out, Ralphie kept it one hunna with multiple items that elicit the, "Damn, they don't make 'em like they used to" response.

Film: The Nightmare Before Christmas

Who says that Christmas time means you have to silence your gothic, ghoulish side? Jack Skellington does holiday goth right, bringing a formal element to the fore, but still keeping it creepy. The black and white color palette is dope, and the slim cut of his suiting is very Saint Laurent. And when he does bring in a bit of color, the monochromatic backdrop makes it pop so much more.

Film: Home Alone

If you were to only model your steez after Home Alone, you'd do pretty well for yourself. And even though Kevin McAllister is only 8-years-old in the film, his holiday style is very advanced. Hell, he was able to take care of himself for a while, something you struggle with everyday. His multi-patterned 'fits, cozy sweaters, and, of course, his grooming habits, make him the youngest style icon to date.

Film: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Clark Griswold looks like he would get street styled at NYFW for rocking a rugged but casual look in the face of peacocks and suits. That Bears snapback is ill, as is the forest green jacket over a similarly colored overshirt. This is how you dress for the holidays without looking like that asshole who really loves the holidays. If only the rest of Griswold's vacation went as well as this look.

Film: Bad Santa

Pro tip: If you ever want to be stylish, buck what everyone else is doing and do your own shit. Case in point is Gin Slagel's tonal three-piece mustard suit (four-piece, if you count the 10-gallon hat) and bolo tie and other Western details, which snaps necks when everything else is a flurry of red and green Christmas-themed diarrhea.

Film: Miracle on 34th Street

All I want for Christmas is to have the sensibility and faculty to dress this well when I'm that fucking old. The three piece suit is, of course, righteously pulled off by Kris Kringle, but it's the immaculate beard and facial hair that gives him the edge for a top spot. You won't find anything this dope within a 10-block radius of 34th street these days. Except, you know, for actual dope.

Film: Trading Places

There had to be at least one rendition of Santa Claus on this list, and Louis Winthorpe III's grungy take on the classic red suit with white fur trim wins the day. Mainly because this is how you feel (and maybe look) after a week's worth of boozy holiday parties, time with your extended family, and finishing up everything before you enter the hell that is domestic travel in America. Along with Rizzo the Rat, he embodies tailored, eccentric British style. With enough wool layers and accessories to fight off the cold of the weather and Ebenezer Scrooge's heart, everything is bright, bold, and festive.
