John Galliano has established a two-year partnership with ready-to-wear brand Zara, where the designer will revamp its archival pieces.

The controversial British designer, 65, was last creative director of Maison Margiela for a decade before his tenure concluded in 2024. Just three years before, Galliano was filmed making antisemitic remarks at a dining establishment in Paris, which led to him being dismissed as creative director of Dior.

With Galliano’s return to fashion after a two-year absence, his creative partnership with Zara will position him to "re-author the brand’s archives through a series of seasonal collections."

"Mr. Galliano will be working directly with garments from Zara’s past seasons, deconstructing and reconfiguring them into new seasonal expressions and creations," a statement from the Spanish retail brand read.

Galliano previously told Vogue during Paris Fashion Week that he had been "curating" pieces for Zara. "I’m super excited, because it’s not something I’ve done before, so that kind of tickles me — the newness, the excitement, the actual process," Galliano told the publication.

"Even with my team, I have to keep reminding them daily: No, it’s not this, and it’s not that. We are re-authoring. It’s been quite fun, and I just think it’s a very positive thing to be doing at this time, and really sustainable from a creative point of view, which is super interesting to me."

The releases will be unveiled seasonally beginning in September 2026.
