When it comes to the members of the Royal Family, it is no surprise that there are many very special — and very pricey — family heirlooms. Many of those heirlooms come in the form of iconic pieces of jewelry.

At a recent charity event, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, formerly known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made a special appearance. They were matching with the Duke wearing a navy blue suit jacket and slacks, while Markle wore a Carolina Herrera dress of the same color. The dress retails at a whopping $2,490 — however, the Duchess’s dress was hardly the most valuable thing she was wearing.

The true star of her ensemble was actually an accessory, a gold watch. According to Page Six, the Cartier Tank Française watch formerly belonged to the Duchess’s late mother-in-law, none other than Diana, the Princess of Wales.

Princess Diana was photographed wearing the watch on several occasions throughout the years, including during a visit to the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple back in 1997.

The Duchess of Sussex is not the only member of the Royal Family to be seen wearing a jewelry piece that once belonged to Princess Diana. Princess Kate has also been spotted with some heirloom pieces in the past. This includes some extra special items such as her former diamond and sapphire engagement ring, a pair of pearl drop earrings, and even one of her tiaras.

As for the Duchess of Sussex, she has previously shared that she treasures her mother-in-law’s Cartier watch so much that she purchased another one to one day give to her daughter.

“That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them,” she said.
