The Best Outfits From "New Jack City"

The film opens with Nino Brown and his henchman, Duh Duh Duh Man, dangling a man off of a bridge. If you don't pay Nino Brown, how is he going to afford all those Kangol hats and bright tracksuits?

Gee Money shows off his game (and earns a little money on the side) while working a green velvet tracksuit and gold money chain. Green and gold will always go hand-in-hand. The amount of bucket hats and gold jewelry in this scene is incredible.

As Gee Money hops in the Jeep with Nino and Duh Duh Duh Man to discuss future endeavors, we see that Nino and the Cash Money Boys aren't only about selling dope, but also about wearing Kangol caps and dookie chains at every possible moment.

Ice-T as Detective Appleton first shows up working undercover to bust low-level crack dealer Pookie Robinson, played by a young Chis Rock. Ice-T may show off his Cali pride by rocking a Raiders varsity jacket, but he also stays laced in the afrocentric gear that proliferated in the early-'90s.

New Jack City is ultimately a tale of tragedy, and no tragedy would be complete without a Greek chorus. As these fellas sing "Living for the City," we're introduced to Nino Brown's forceful takeover of the Carter Apartments; the Cash Money Boys' soon-to-be headquarters. Angularly-patterned zip-ups, high-top fades and even a head-to-toe leather kit are represented by these street singers.

With the Carter fully under his control, Nino catches the attention of rival boss Don Armeteo, who sends his errand boy, Frankie to scare Nino. Unfortunately for him, Nino refuses to be intimidated with his pea green suit and black turtleneck.

The Cash Money boys love to hit up the Spotlite, a night club tucked in a seedier part of the city. With tons of beautiful women and excellent music, the Master of Ceremonies at such an establishment is none other than Flavor Flav. While he has no shortage of interesting ensembles, he steps his game into high gear with a white tux, emerald cummerbund, red clock chain, and baby bottle.

While the rest of the club is popping off, Nino Brown and his inner circle are popping bottles in the back room of the Spotlite. While his boys Gee Money and Duh Duh Duh Man rock black suits with orange shirts, Nino heads the table in a bright red double-breasted suit.

Following his violent takeover of the Carter Apartments, Nino uses his newfound income to give back to the residents (and eventual future customers) during the holiday season. While Nino does earn some more clout in the neighborhood for his charity, he and the rest of the CMB unfortunately look like a hotel bellhops.

After being shot by Ice-T's Detective Appleton while attempting to escape in the beginning of the film, Pookie has turned into the worst of addicts. He's suffering through withdrawls after Appleton sends him into rehab, but it looks like he still loves his country with his patriotic button-up.

Promptly after he clears rehab, Pooke meets up with Appleton to say thanks for his help. With a kit that features a black chore coat and denim overalls, Pookie's turned over a new lease in life and in his wardrobe.

Watching Scarface after a night out, Nino shows that he's about his luxury fabrics even when lying around. Nothing says money like a blue silk pajama suit with black silk lapels.

Even though Pookie has made it through rehab and earned Appleton's seal of approval, he still needs needs to earn the trust of Stone, the head of the police operation. Both Appleton and Pookie attempt to make their point with more than just their words, opting for a tribal tam cap and wild floral print, respectively.

With Pookie finally allowed to get involved with the police operation, he breaks down the CMB's operation while rocking the group's official hat, t-shirt, and varsity jacket. Yes, crack-dealing crews in the early-'90s had merch.

Oh you didn't think grunge style would make an appearance in a 1991 film? This Kurt Cobaine look-alike nailed the look with a thick flannel and messy mop of hair.

After Pookie learns the consequences of snitching, Appleton and his fellow officers squad up at the cemetery. Stone heads up the lawful crew looking relaxed with an open double-breasted trenchcoat and undone paisley tie, and Appleton pulls off an early version of Neo from The Matrix.

The police may not agree with him, but Appleton is set on bringing down Nino Brown and the CMB no matter what. He ends up taking matters into his own hands, dressing up in his best impression of a pimp to secure a distribution deal with Gee Money and, by extension, Nino.

Ever one to break trends, Nino comes through a wedding decked out in an all black double-breasted kit with gold buttons and dope, John Lennon-esque glasses. This is seriously on some goth-Thom Browne shit.

Surviving an assassination attempt from his rivals, Nino reigns in his inner circle and loses trust in all those around him. What's a guy to do when his world is crumbling around him? Return back to his wardobe's reliable standby of bright, double-breasted suits and gold.

Backed up by heavy firepower, Nino heads into his final drug deal with his trademark massive gold hoop earring and heavy gold chain atop a blood-red turtleneck. Don't even try to front like dudes today aren't still taking style inspiration from Nino Brown.
