The Biggest Celebrity Style Fails and Wins of the Week

There were plenty of premiers this week, and plenty of wins and fails on their red carpets.

Even though celebrities are flush with influence and cash, there are only a few that consistently kill it when it comes to style. The rest of the time, they're just like us when it comes to hits and misses. But since they're constantly in the spotlight, the hits and misses are magnified instantly. Each week, we honor those who rise to the challenge of dressing well, and shade those who clearly threw up a brick.

L.A. was popping off with premieres, with two big productions, Inherent Vice and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hosting some of Hollywood's A-listers on the red carpet. Movie releases aside, the City of Angels seemed to be host for a range of superb (and terrible) off-duty looks. Looking at the latest, greatest, and hated looks of the last week, these are The Biggest Celebrity Style Fails and Wins of the Week.

Fail: Jack Black

Where: Los Angeles

Who knew The Mountain made red carpet gear?

Win: Scott Disick

Where: Beverly Hills, CA

Scott stays doing his best Kanye impersonation, but it's hard to hate when you roll out in the grey Villain hoodie and Common Projects Achilles lows to match.

Fail: Tyrese Gibson

Where: Beverly Hills, CA

Tyrese tried to look upscale, but ended up looking misplaced with wider-than-necessary trousers and a bizarre shawl collar jacket. That belt buckle isn't doing him any favors either…

Win: David Beckham

Where: London

Beckham proves that you don't need to over-complicate formal dress. A simplified tux is always the way to go when the situation calls for it.

Fail: Victor Rasuk

Where: Los Angeles

Victor Rasuk hasn't seen much play since How To Make It in America wrapped, and while it's nice to see him on the red carpet again, you'd think he'd put a little more effort into his kit. The guy looks like a scared little boy in that no-effort suit and shirt combo.

Win: John C. Reilly

Where: Los Angeles

An unlikely choice, John C. Reilly nails an unusually tricky move for celebs on the red carpet: that perfect mix of casual and formal. We're just happy he didn't decide to take style inspiration from the “Boats and Hoes” video.

Fail: Joaquin Phoenix

Where: Los Angeles

Did you even try? We know Joaquin Phoenix likes subverting the norm (and possibly going on vision quests in the Nevada desert—we don't know for certain) but if you're going to star in a film that's contending for an Oscar nod, the least you can do is not look like a low-level IT who just clocked out.

Win: Fabolous

Where: Los Angeles

Fabolous killed it with the clean white shirt x perfect-fitting denim x coke white kicks combo. Plus, the jewelry is present without becoming obnoxious, a rare feat in today's climate.

Fail: Cuba Gooding Jr.

Where: New York

Cuba's looking like a dude who tries to get laid at Planet Hollywood. Does anyone else miss Snow Dogs-era Cuba?

Win: Sam Smith

Where: Philadelphia, PA

While this is definitely Sam Smith's uniform for performances and public appearances, we certainly can't knock him for knowing what works for him.
