A recent movement in the fashion industry has highlighted the importance of diverse body types for women. Plus-size women have been gaining exposure in campaigns and on the runway, but what about the men's plus-size models? As Yahoo! Style points out, the same diversity of body types hasn't quite made it to men's and most likely won't anytime soon.
“I’ve rarely seen the sizes in men’s fashion change,” modeling agent and former director of Wilhelmina Men Greg Chan told Yahoo! “The requirements to be lean in high fashion have stayed consistent, even though that doesn’t necessarily represent the average businessman who pays $2,000 for a suit.”
Even with the popularity of the Dad bod, New York Fashion Week: Men's hasn't appeared to embrace the doughy figure. The average model remains at a height of 6'1 with a 32-inch waist.
Gene Kogan, an agent for DNA model management, says they don't scout for plus-size models because the demand from designers and retailers doesn't exist yet. Although men have voiced that they'd like to see more body sizes, until there is money behind the market, they probably won't.
