Opened in 2007, The Goodhood Store was initially set up by Kyle Steward and Jo Sindle, with the express purpose of supporting like-minded brands that share the duo's 'independence and exclusivity' ethos. The Goodhood guys' forward-looking in-store brand curation ranges across the more intelligent, understated, and quality-led end of the streetwear spectrum, taking in the like of PAM, Soulland, Cav Empt, Gasius, and Fuct SSDD through to the more innovative high-fashion designers, such as Junya Watanabe, Gosha Rubchinskiy, and Comme des Garçons. So, the launch of a new, much bigger, two floor emporium, on Curtain Road in London's Shoreditch, on Monday, is to those of us who like garms, a genuinely exciting development. On top of their sublimely edited menswear selects, there will be more expansive ranges of reading material, accessories, homewear, womenswear, kidswear, grooming products, and, for the caffeine addicts, the debut of a Goodhood Cafe.
In honour of the launch, Steward and Sindle have put together this list of their top picks from the new store. Slide to get that debit card twitching.
2.GRIND Magazine
"GRIND is a Japanese lifestyle magazine, with a focus on street fashion. The way they collate products, and the graphic treatment of the mag, is a learning experience every time you read it. "
3.Cav Empt
"Cav Empt are known for their incredible graphics that look like they’re left overs from a Matrix film, or dark web black hole. Cav empt are headed up by sk8thing of BBC, Bape and Human Made fame. The long sleeve t-shirt; square front graphic; sleeve graphics, it's perfect..."
4.Junya Watanabe
"Superior Japanese design, construction and finishing, Watanabe will always blow you away. Channeling London punk, these denims with both leather, and suede back pockets, feature incredible tartan patchwork and distress detailing throughout."
5.Neighborhood
"Born in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, Neighborhood reference points include Americana, biker culture, and punk. Never afraid to think outside of the box, this show stopping, all-over print leopard shirt is a fine example. Perfectly executed with just the right amount of badass attitude."
6.Knight Mills
"Amazing hand-made rugs, from our good friend Sacha Knight and her Knight Mills imprint. Inspired by some of the raddest stuff including vintage US military supplies, bikers, the occult, and heavy guitar music. The Knight Mills Fury is an exclusive to Goodhood, grey Navajo rug, hand made in North America from Mohair and Churro—a Navajo breed of sheep—wool, by native American craftsmen."
7.Studio Arhoj
"Another Nordic homeware brand, Studio Arhoj was originally founded in Tokyo back in 2005 by Anders Arhoj. Studio Arhoj take a very fresh and innovative approach to production and design."
8.Norse Projects
"There's something great about the Scandinavian twist on clothing. We say clothing because that's exactly what Norse Projects is, basic and functional, with a workwear aesthetic. We were the first store in London to carry their hats, and it has been a pleasure to watch the label grow. Now that winter is slowly creeping up on us, you'll need some long-sleeved shirts to see you through. Throw a gilet over these cotton classics, with a beanie and some denim for that 90s Hip-Hop vibe."
