Slawn and Opake recently opened their joint exhibition, “Heroes, Villains, & Violence,” a stunning exploration of the artists' shared dream of being real-life superheroes.
Opening during Miami's Art Basel, the exhibition examines themes of heroism, villainy, and violence through a lens that blends personal reflection with cultural commentary. Slawn and Opake employ well-known imagery from comics, film, and media—including Iron Man, Captain America, Snow White, and the Mad Hatter—to interrogate broader questions about morality, identity, and the stories society tells itself.
Boxing is also a persistent motif in the exhibition. The show boasted a real boxing ring, which hosted Miami fighters Uly “Monster” Diaz and Bryan “El Gallo” Duran during its Art Basel opening.
The show allows both artists to push their individual practices while creating work that speaks to shared cultural touchstones. “Heroes, Villains, & Violence” runs through Dec. 31 at The Art of Hip Hop.
