Here's a Look at Rick Owens' Retrospective Exhibit on Display Now at Barneys New York

Since launching his eponymous label in 1994, Rick Owens has solidified himself as one of the most revered and influential American-born fashion designers. His mens- and womenswear collections have garnered a cult-like following among individuals with a taste for unconventional silhouettes, monochrome color palettes, as well as a dramatic mix of grunge and luxury; however, Owens’ signature aesthetic—often referred to as “neo-gothic”—isn’t confined to just clothing. The designer has also ventured into other creative fields such as fine art, film, furniture, and architecture—some of which are now on display at an Owens retrospective exhibit at Barneys New York.

The monthlong event, called Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman, explores the evolution of the 56-year-old’s body of work, and how he has challenged traditional beauty standards through a wide range of media. The exhibit will include more than 20 fashion designs, video art, furniture pieces, sketches, lookbooks, runway footage, and prototypes, as well as a recreation of Owens’ “earth work” sculpture across all of the flagship’s windows.

In conjunction with the exhibit, the luxury retailer will launch its Freds at Barneys New York Downtown designer burger series with a burger designed by Owens himself.
