After showing in Milan last season, MM6 Maison Margiela returned to London Fashion Week to debut its fall/winter 2020 collection. And it didn't disappoint.
The upcoming collection took cues from various eras of the underground club culture, but managed to maintain a fresh, contemporary feel through reworked silhouettes, bold colors, head-turning prints, and a healthy dose of textures.
"We printed lots of MM6 articles and stories from magazines, tore them to pieces and put them in a zebra print, which we photographed and made into a print," the brand's team told WWD. "We thought it would be nice to be a little bit more abstract."
Pieces included a faux fur zebra-print coat, a fringe leather jacket, paneled leather trousers, metallic-thread rollnecks, oversized suits, origami bags, and a tambourine choker. The highlight of the range, however, was MM6's much-anticipated collaboration with The North Face.
The partnership offers a new take on The North Face's Expedition System, a signature line of outerwear known for its detachable, layered pieces. The range includes the hooded Himalayan Coat, the cape-style Mountain Kaban, the compact Nuptse puffer jacket, and and the lengthened Denali jacket.
"Resonating with the modular and customisable nature of both the MM6 collection and the original Expedition System, garments are engineered with interlocking components that adapt and extend the protective, insulating properties of each design," MM6 wrote in a statement. "Starting from The North Face iconic black shoulder construction and executed in a bright palette of cobalt, violet, bottle green, sun yellow and safety orange, authentic performance textiles ensure each piece preserves ultimate functionality whilst embodying a sculptural and resolutely avant-garde silhouette."
