Y-3 has already given us a taste of its Spring/Summer 2016 collection through an exclusive capsule with Matchesfashion.com inspired by designer Yohji Yamamoto's ink drawings. The entire runway collection is based off of these pieces of art and epitomizes a collection that is meant to evoke movement through the use of bold colors and patterns.
Each aspect of the collection plays on this concept of movement. The garment's elongated, draping hems allow for maximum fluidity, there's shocking pops of bright blue among a color palette that is almost entirely black, and patterns, like stripes going in all different directions, give a clear sense of movement.
The drawings created by Yamamoto—which consists of four self-portraits of the designer—also show a person in motion and are printed across the collection's offerings. The artwork appears on one of the three different varieties of the poncho as well as on flowing T-shirts. The collection also includes a biker jacket, jerseys, tank tops, shorts, and trousers.
The range also includes a new batch of Y-3 sneakers, including an all-white version of the Qasa High.
Y-3 is giving consumers the chance to get their hands on pieces from the collection early. Orders for the new Qasa High and a poncho featuring Yamamoto's drawing can be placed here for the next week. Those items will ship out at the end of July, while everyone else will have to wait much longer to purchase the collection.
