Although many powerful people in fashion have come out about the lack of the diversity in the industry, change seems to be coming very slowly. This week, designers have been presenting their Fall 2015 Couture shows and out of 482 models that have walked on the runway, only 17 of them were black, according to Nico Bellay
The amount is based on 12 shows from prominent designers, such as Maison Margiela, Chanel, Christian Dior, and Versace. "Diversity is still a major problem," Bellay writes.
Looking at the shows that have taken place, Giambattista Valli's and Ulyana Sergeenko's shows were the most diverse with a mere four black women each; Alberta Ferretti, Alexandre Vauthier both included just two black women; only one black woman walked the runway for John Galliano's Maison Margiela show, Raf Simon's Dior presentation, Bouchra Jarrar, and Versace; while shows from Armani, Chanel, and Schiaprelli featured none.
Although powerful designers, including Riccardo Tisci and Olivier Rousteing, and style icons, like Rihanna, have recently spoken up about this issue, it doesn't appear as if anything is improving.
