When Kanye West’s sixth solo album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, was unveiled five years ago, there was much conversation surrounding not only its boundary-pushing musical value, but also its accompanying artwork.
West partnered with contemporary painter George Condo for five versions of the album cover, including a cubist-style portrait, a decapitated head and sword, and a naked sphinx straddling Kanye. Upon its release, the CD was rejected from certain stores because of the nudity on its front image, and Ye went on an anti-commercialist Twitter rant in response.
Five years since its release, Kanye fans are now wishing MBDTF a happy birthday with artistic contributions of their own. Here are some of our favorite fan-made illustrations and paintings that commemorate the iconic album.
