New York Fashion Week always delivers its share of statement moments, and this year FENDI claimed one of the biggest by bringing back a mid-2000s classic: the Spy Bag (retail price: $3,750 to $4,900).
To mark the occasion, the Italian fashion house partnered with Moda Operandi. It hosted an intimate gathering on the Upper East Side, led by actress Bianca Lawson, who set the tone for the night’s all-star celebration.
The event unfolded inside Chez Fifi, a townhouse-turned-bistro with just the right mix of secrecy and glamour for a bag known for its hidden details. The atmosphere was more private club than fashion spectacle, with Paul Sevigny on the decks and an exclusive guest list circulating through the 1930s-inspired rooms.
Attendees included Lindsay Lohan, Lauren Santo Domingo, Talita von Fürstenberg, Ivy Getty, Alisha Boe, Derek Blasberg, Tessa Brooks, and Lawson herself, who stood out in head-to-toe FENDI.
Initially launched in 2005, the Spy Bag quickly became one of FENDI’s most recognizable designs. Its playful espionage-inspired elements—like a concealed pocket accessible through a disguised button—made it a cult favorite among early collectors and celebrities alike.
Two decades later, the Spy Bag has been reimagined for Fall/Winter 2025, complete with an exclusive mini version available for preorder through Moda Operandi’s private trunkshow.
Lauren Santo Domingo reflected on the bag’s journey with Vogue, noting how its legacy has evolved: “What I love is that the women who once saved up for their first Spy have grown into collectors, and now a new generation gets to discover its appeal all over again.”
Lohan, who has long ties to the house, added her own perspective during the evening. “I have so many memories with my FENDI family and the original Spy, so to be here for this anniversary makes it extra special,” she said.
