Alycia Baumgardner continues to redefine what it looks like to be a modern boxing star.
Signed to Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the unified super featherweight champion is defending her belts on one of the biggest stages the sport has seen in years. According to USA Today, on December 19, Baumgardner will step into the ring in Miami as part of the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua undercard, which will stream live on Netflix.
Ahead of the bout against Canada’s Leila Beaudoin, London-based contemporary artist Sara Shakeel unveiled the custom-designed, bling-heavy kit for the up-and-coming pugilist. Shakeel's work is instantly recognizable for its use of Swarovski crystals, glass, and glitter-heavy detailing.
Shakeel’s involvement brings an unexpected layer of art-world credibility to the moment. The Pakistani-born artist, who built her following through viral digital collages on Instagram, is best known for projects like her #glitterstretchmarks series, which reframed perceived imperfections with gold glitter and crystals.
Her portfolio includes collaborations with brands such as Reebok and high-profile creative work, including the crystal-covered CD sculpture used for Chance the Rapper’s The Big Day. Shakeel’s designs often center on empowerment, transformation, and reclaiming narratives — themes that align naturally with Baumgardner’s approach to boxing.
But while the kit is undeniably eye-catching, Baumgardner’s upcoming fight is far from a fashion exhibition.
Per ESPN, the December 19 bout will be contested under men’s championship rules: 12 rounds, three minutes each. In doing so, Baumgardner will defend her WBA, WBO, and IBF super featherweight titles under the same conditions long reserved for men—a move widely seen as another step toward rules and pay equality in the sport.
A win would also mark Baumgardner’s third consecutive undisputed title defense, placing her in rare territory regardless of gender.
