The founding duo behind Online Ceramics have announced they will no longer run the beloved brand together.
In a statement, Alix Ross and Elijah Funk confirmed that they are parting ways. "After eight years of collaboration, Alix Ross is parting ways with Online Ceramics to pursue new ventures," the duo confirmed. "Tricker's Cabin: The Oral & Visual History of Online Ceramics is the final project from Funk and Ross under the original banner. The book is both a capstone to an incredible partnership and an anthology of a singular, boundlessly creative friendship."
As reported by GQ, Funk will continue to run Online Ceramics as Ross pursues new projects. To celebrate their creative partnership, they've published a 348-page, foil-stamped clothbound hardcover book with A24 breaking down the history of the brand since its founding in 2016. The book is available to purchase now for $65.
In a conversation with GQ, Funk said he hopes to release home goods and potentially sneakers through Online Cearmics in the future. He said he wants to turn it into "more of a 'brand-brand,'" which could mean fewer collaborations but a bigger emphasis on the OC brand itself. "But, we're based on hippie shit, and I don't want to lose sight of that," said Funk
Throughout the brand's history, Online Ceramics has garnered a huge fanbase for its hippie-inspired designs that all started with Ross and Funk's shared love of the Grateful Dead. They've collaborated with A24 countless times, but have also released collections with John Mayer, the estate of Alice Coltrane, and more.
