In the mid-1970s, Chuck Brown created a new kind of Funk music called go-go. The new style incorporated heavy conga rhythm and shout-along vocals that allowed the audience to be a part of the music. The funky beats of go-go music were born in Washington, D.C. but never made it out of the city, becoming a key part of the regional culture.
