The controversial sport XFL may be making a comeback. That's right, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon could at it again as he's slated to make a "major sports announcement" Thursday afternoon.

While WWE just celebrated Raw's 25th anniversary on Monday, McMahon is looking to make other money moves. Back in December, he reportedly filed paperwork to sell 3.34 million shares, or about $100 million, of his WWE stock to fund another company, Alpha Entertainment. At that time, WWE released a statement on the maneuver. "Vince McMahon has established and is personally funding a separate entity from WWE, Alpha Entertainment, to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football. Mr. McMahon has nothing further to announce at this time," it read.

Now, as McMahon readies his announcement, many are speculating it'll be a return of the XFL. This includes former NFL player Pat McAfee, who tweeted that he wants to be a team owner.

The XFL launched in the early 2000s and was promised to be like the NFL except with less rules, rougher plays, scantily-clad cheerleaders, and the high jinks that popularized the WWE. However due to lack of training and low viewership, it fell apart after one season in 2001. McMahon later called it a "colossal failure."

Now it seems McMahon has (hopefully) learned from his mistakes and is ready to relaunch the sport with a bigger and better plan. The announcement is scheduled to be live streamed today, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m. EST. Catch it through Alpha Entertainment’s Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or on their website.
