Serena Williams on Losing Wimbledon Title: 'I'm Literally Just Getting Started'

Serena Williams won't be going home with another Wimbledon title this year. The GOAT lost 6-3 in the Ladies’ Single Final against German player Angelique Kerber.

"It was such an amazing tournament for me. I was really happy to get this far," said Williams in an interview after the match with notables like Anna Wintour, Meghan Markle, and Kate Middleton in the audience. "It’s obviously disappointing, but I can’t be disappointed. I have so much to look forward to. I’m literally just getting started." The journalist went on to mention how moms around the world look to her as a "superhuman supermom," but Williams remained humble.

"I'm just me, that's all I can be. But to all the moms out there you know I was playing for you today and I tried," she says, fighting back tears. "I look forward to just continuing to be back out here and do what I do best."

Williams also spoke about her opponent.

"She’s an incredible person, Angelique is, and she’s a really good friend, so I’m really happy for her," she said. "This is her first title and I know she’s going to really enjoy it and enjoy the moment. So congrats again. It’s amazing."

The loss will definitely hit Williams hard—especially since she missed her daughter's first steps while training for the tournament. But if there's anything we know about the queen of tennis, it's that she'll always be the people's champ.
