Oscar De La Hoya had a hilariously confusing moment with the crowd and his choice of words at a recent press conference, and Ryan Garcia stepped in to help him out.
De La Hoya and Garcia were at the Palladium in New York City for a press conference on Tuesday to promote the latter’s upcoming match with Rolly Romero when it happened.
De La Hoya attempted to hype up Garcia for the fight when his word choice left people in attendance wondering what he meant.
“He is hungry to get on top!” proclaimed De La Hoya. The crowd immediately went silent followed by different people saying, “Ayo?” according to audio from the moment. As De La Hoya looked around at what was happening, he appeared to be unaware what caused that reaction.
It took Garcia to swoop in and explain the funny circumstances that De La Hoya couldn’t detect. "Oh shit. You forgot to say ‘pause’ or ‘No Diddy’ bro,” joked Garcia.
“He’s ready to get on top of the boxing world — not putting on the oil,” responded De La Hoya with a laugh.
The world will find out if Garcia will be on top on May 2 when he fights Romero in Times Square. Also on that fight card is Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez and Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr.
If either De La Hoya or Garcia ever need any help remembering to say ‘No Diddy,’ Gucci Mane should easily be able to remind them. On the track ‘TakeDat’ that he dropped last April, Gucci rapped “No Diddy” 119 times.
