Baseball Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson has died.
TMZ reports that the legendary baseball player, known as the “Man of Steal,” has passed away due to pneumonia. He’d been getting treated at a hospital in the Oakland area when it happened.
Born in 1958 in Chicago, Ricky would end up playing baseball at Oakland Tech High School and up being drafted by the Oakland A’s in the fourth round of the 1976 MLB Draft.
From 1979 to 2008, he played left field for nine teams — but most of the time was spent with the Oakland A’s where he debuted. After stints with the Yankees, Mets, Blue Jays, and Padres, and a select few other teams, he retired with the Dodgers.
Henderson holds the MLB record for stolen bases with 1406 bases stolen throughout his career. He led the MLB in steals in 12 different seasons, including three years with more than 100.
Henderson also has the record for the most times caught stealing with 335 — plus the most runs scored in baseball history with 2,295.
A ten-time all-star and league MVP in 1990, he was inducted into Cooperstown as a first-ballot Hall of Fame player in 2009.
