Denver Broncos pass rusher Jonathon Cooper has been arrested on charges tied to an alleged domestic violence incident in Parker, Colorado.
Taken into custody on Thursday (June 4) by police, he was booked into the Douglas County Detention Facility on two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief. After being released on personal recognizance, Cooper is free until his disposition hearing which is scheduled for Monday (June 8).
According to the arrest affidavit, the alleged confrontation stemmed from Cooper's girlfriend accusing him of cheating and a subsequent altercation at his apartment.
She is claimed to have taken his phone and thrown it across the room before deciding to pick it up and attempt to see what was on it. They then allegedly got into a scuffle where Cooper is claimed to have "braced his neck against [his girlfriend's] neck to prevent her from getting his phone."
Cooper then allegedly told her that he would destroy her phone before biting and breaking it.
The Broncos addressed the situation in a brief statement, saying: "We are aware of the matter and are gathering more information." NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league has also been in contact with the team, per The Athletic.
Cooper had participated in Denver's OTA practice on Thursday, which was open to the media, before the arrest that night. The team finished its first week of voluntary OTAs that same day and reconvenes Tuesday (June 9), with mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 16-18.
The 28-year-old signed a four-year, $60 million extension with Denver in November 2024 and is under contract through 2028. He finished the 2025 regular season with eight sacks and 16 QB hits, second on the team behind Nik Bonitto, and added a sack in the postseason.
