Ja Morant has been fined $75,000 for making finger gun gestures during a recent game.

The NBA announced the fine for the Memphis Grizzlies star today (April 4) after he made the gestures twice during last night’s game against the Miami Heat. He’d just received warnings a few hours before the game about gestures he made during a previous one.

"Morant was previously warned by the league office that this gesture could be interpreted in a negative light," said the NBA in a statement.

Morant’s finger guns were celebrations throughout the game after his biggest plays that ultimately earned the Grizzlies a 110-108 win.

Prior to last night’s display of weaponized digits, the NBA investigated Morant earlier this week when he used finger guns against Buddy Hield during a match against the Golden State Warriors.

Buddy Hield returned the imaginary fire, so both players were issued warnings by the NBA without any penalties. At the time, the league decided that this form of celebration wasn’t violent, but still inappropriate and not to be displayed further.

Prior to him using finger guns during last night’s game, Morant revealed that he was “well aware” that the gesture made headlines after Tuesday’s game.

“I’m kind of used to it,” Morant said. “I was pretty much a villain for two years now. Every little thing, if somebody can say something negative about me, it’s going to be out there. So, yeah. I don’t care no more.”

Back in 2023, Morant was suspended from the NBA twice for real gun-related issues.
