Draymond Green apologized to Jordan Poole after the latter’s recent comments about the Golden State Warriors came to light.
Senior NBA writer Marc J. Spears recently shared a quote on X from Poole talking about his former teammates.
“‘I love those guys over there, I love most of those guys over there,’ Wizards guard Jordan Poole said on his former Warriors teammates,” wrote Spears.
Green responded early Sunday morning with an apology that seems to be directed at Poole.
“I really am sorry,” he wrote.
Green and Poole’s issues began after the former punched the latter in the face during practice in 2022. Footage of the knockout blow leaked online and went viral, leading to reactions from several NBA players.
Isaiah Thomas blasted Green’s attack, sharing on X, “He’s gonna have to see me every time after this sucker punch. Damn. That ain’t it! And whoever leaked this should be fired too.”
Trae Young also shared his thoughts, suggesting that this was Green’s way of forcing a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Draymond is tryna get to LA. Damn!” Young wrote.
The entire situation caused considerable tension among the team, leading to Poole later getting traded to the Wizards.
Two years later, their issues seemed to play out on the court during a Warriors and Wizards game: Poole intervened when Green gave rookie Carlton “Bub” Carrington some choice words.
Trash talk and pointing ensued, but no other punches were thrown.
After the game, Green praised Poole for playing "a lot better” and for taking better shots.
"I think it was a matter of [Poole] wanting it so bad to prove to people that 'I can have my own team,' that 'I can come here and be successful,'" Green said. "I think he's doing a really good job of settling in now and letting the game come to him."
