President Donald Trump’s latest power move seems to be suggesting that football in the United States gets a new name.

Trump mused on this during a seemingly stream-of-consciousness moment at the Kennedy Center in Washington, where he stood at the World Cup draw next to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Mexico president Claudio Sheinbaum, and the Prime Minister of Canada (all three countries will co-host the 2026 World Cup). After sharing a personal memory about soccer, Trump brought up the idea of football getting a name change.

“When you look at what has happened to football in the United States, soccer in the United States ... we seem to never call it [football] because we have a little bit of a conflict with another thing that's called football," Trump said. "But when you think about it, shouldn't it really be called ... this is football, there's no question about it. We have to come up with another name for the NFL. It really doesn't make sense when you think about it."

At the same ceremony, Trump was awarded the FIFA Peace Prize. The award celebrates "individuals who have taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace and by doing so have united people across the world." It's a prize the organization created this year.

Speaking after receiving the award, Trump said, "This is truly one of the great honors of my life.”

Late last month, Trump seemingly persuaded Paramount to revive the Rush Hour franchise.
