Brandon Miller has testified that he was nearly struck by bullets that were fired at his car in the January 2023 shooting that killed Jamea Harris.

ESPN reports that the Charlotte Hornets player is a witness for the prosecution in the capital murder trial of Michael Lynn Davis, who is accused of killing Harris.

On Thursday (May 8), Miller testified in court for nearly an hour and a half. He revealed that he drove his Dodge Charger to the crime scene in Tuscaloosa with a gun owned by his former University of Alabama teammate, Darius Miles (who’s been charged with “aiding and abetting” Davis).

Much of Miller’s testimony centered around text messages that he sent to Miles, in which he agreed to bring him his gun. While driving, Miller received a message from Miles that said, “I need my joint. …[Real life] just got ta da fakin’.”

Miller, who has not been accused of wrongdoing, testified that his understanding of the message was that someone was “putting on a front,” so Miles wanted to have his weapon. The basketball player also testified that he believed someone was attempting to scare Miles.

Additionally, Miles testified that he didn’t know what happened between Davis and the victim before he arrived, or if the gun would be used. When he arrived at the scene, Miller said he parked behind his former Alabama teammate Jaden Bradley’s Dodge Challenger. After Miles and Davis walked up to his car and obtained the gun from the backseat, Davis allegedly asked if the gun was loaded. Miller testified in court that he didn’t know what was going to happen next.

While running away, Davis allegedly fired two bullets that entered Miller’s car. One of the rounds struck the windshield and almost hit Miller. Miller also testified that he wasn’t aware that Harris, who was seated in her black Jeep, had been shot and killed.

After the shooting, Miller said that he spoke to an attorney and investigators. He’s also cooperated with authorities since it happened.

If convicted, Davis faces life in prison. Miles’ trial for aiding and abetting has yet to be scheduled.

Back in 2023, Miller was hit with a wrongful death lawsuit for Harris’ death.
