A rare Aaron Judge baseball card has been sold for nearly $1 million at a recent auction.
According to the New York Post, the one-of-a-kind baseball card, a 2013 Bowman Aaron Judge Superfactor sold for a whopping $838,750 on Friday (May 15).
The card shows Judge right after he was selected by the New York Yankees in the 2013 MLB draft. It’s widely considered to be the most important unsigned card of the player to currently exist.
According to Chris Ivy of Heritage Auctions, the previous owner of the card didn’t realize how much it was worth until a dealer came to purchase the card and asked him if he’d sell it to him for $25,000.
Before the owner could respond, the dealer advised him not to accept the offer and contact an auction house to sell it instead.
"Collectors helping other collectors is the foundation of our hobby, and we are thrilled to be a part of it," said Ivy. "The huge result for the card is a life-changing moment for the consignor and his family, and we couldn’t be happier for them."
The sale of the card follows the March sale of the autographed version of it, which sold for $5.2 million via Fanatics Collect and set the record for being the most expensive modern baseball card sold ever.
"We're incredibly honored to have brokered this record-breaking deal and to be part of such a momentous moment in hobby history," said Fanatics Collect in a statement. "As a company, we value our deep relationships with our collectors, with both their trust and our expertise allowing us to continue to help set sale records in the months and years to come."
