Serena Williams’s comeback is in full motion, with Tuesday (June 16) bringing word that she and her sister, Venus Williams, will be back together again at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships thanks to a wild card.
Per an announcement of this year’s initial wild cards from Championships Referee Denise Parnell, seen in full here, the sisters, who already have six doubles titles together, will play in the ladies’ doubles event.
At the top of the month, the tennis world was rocked by the news that Serena was making her return to professional tennis after four years.
“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter," Williams, who in 2022 penned a Vogue essay about “evolving away” from the sport, said in a statement shard by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) at the time. “Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”
Ultimately, the Queen’s Club appearance was a brief one due to Serena’s doubles partner, Victoria Mboko, having injured her knee one day prior.
“Wishing you a speedy recovery,” Serena later wrote on Instagram, adding that she “can’t wait to see you back on court.”
The 2026 Wimbledon Championships kick off on June 29. Other wild card pairings confirmed for the ladies’ doubles event on Tuesday include Katie Boulter and Heather Watson; Madeleine Brooks and Amelia Rajecki; Jodie Burrage and Mika Stojsavljevic; Freya Christie and Eden Silva; Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden; and Alicia Dudeney and Mimi Xu.
