Mase Details What Bronny James Could Learn From Drake Before NBA Debut

"It’s kill or be killed, every night," Mase said of what to expect once Bronny's first Lakers season is in full swing.

Mase says Bronny James should look to Drake’s career for inspiration as he embarks on his inaugural NBA season with the Lakers.

During a recent episode of the It Is What It Is podcast with Cam’ron and Treasure “Stat Baby” Wilson, Mase pointed to the 6 God as an example of someone who strategically “made people look at him in a different light.” The advice came amid a larger discussion of the hosts’ preseasons takeaways, with the NBA opening night set for Oct. 22.

“I just would say this to Bronny You gotta really look at it like this. It’s kill or be killed, every night,” Mase said in the final minutes of the episode below. “It’s kill or be killed and if you take that mindset, remember, get the cornrows. Listen to Uncle Murda. Get the cornrows, wear the sleeve, wear No. 6. Change your number right now to No. 6 and wear the red Lebrons. I’m telling you. Just try it one game. Try it one game and prove me wrong.”

Bronny currently wears No. 9 for the Lakers, with he and his father LeBron taking the court together for the first time earlier this month amid preseason proceedings. The No. 6, meanwhile, has deep personal significance for LeBron, who’s worn the number in the past, including as a tribute to the late Bill Russell. The league retired the number in 2022.

In the same episode, Mase then ultimately made his way to the Drake-centered advice hinted at above, speaking more generally about someone who is “from the suburbs” but makes an effort to cultivate “a little gangster” look.

“Before you know it, you a full-blown gangster, n***a,” he said. “You the 6 God, n***a. That n***a Drake said, ‘I got enemies.’ He started talking crazy. I said, wait a minute. That n***a do got enemies. I believe it.”

Cam quickly chimed in at this point, giving Drake praise for being “one of the slickest talkers in rap,” prompting Mase to again urge Bronny to take a look at Drake’s journey.

“Even though people try to say he’s from this type of culture and this type of background, the way he started talking and the way he started approaching it made people look at him in a different light,” he said. “And since Drake is probably a guy, most likely, that you listen to in music form, you can take that from his craft.”
