Big spotlights almost always make for big egos. But they also make for microscopic criticism. Major League Baseball's newest star Yasiel Puig, who broke out with a .319 average, 42 RBIs, a .534 slugging percentage and 11 stolen bases in 382 at bats, was caught speeding this weekend for the second time this year. Yesterday, in his 2013 Mercedes-Benz (no info on what model), he was gunned at 110 in a 70mph zone in Florida after he was spotted at 97 mph in a 50 mph zone in Tennessee in April.
This shouldn't really be a surprise, doe. Frankly, it's more of a surprise that people are surprised that a 23-year-old kid with new-found fame and cash (he signed a $42 million, seven-year contract in June 2012) is enjoying himself a little too much. And it's easy to see why: He's driving the fastest and most comfortable cars in the world. If you ever try going 100 mph in a Rolls-Royce or a Mercedes-Benz, you'll see that 100 feels like 60 mph in those rides, because they're built on cloud suspensions. It's not a great idea (though we'd be lying if we said we haven't done similar things), so maybe he should just go buy himself some track time. Or just buy his own track?
