Antonio Brown Responds to 'False Claims' Contained in Lawsuit Against Him

Steelers wideout Antonio Brown has responded to a pair of lawsuits filed against him for an April incident at a luxury high-rise complex where he was leasing an apartment. Brown allegedly threw furniture off his 14th-floor balcony in a fit of rage after discovering the theft of a gun and $80,000 in cash. The NFL is monitoring the civil cases, the Post-Gazette reports.

The landlord of the complex where the event occurred—Mansions at Acqualina in Sunny Isle Beach, Florida—filed suit for $15,000 worth of damages. So did Ophir Sternberg, whose 22-month-old son and the boy's grandfather, were apparently near where the furniture fell by the pool area. Police called to the scene did not arrest Brown, but the building's security supervisor said they were in the process of trying to evict him.

On Thursday, Brown released a statement about the suits:

Under the NFL's highly hypocritical standards of conduct, considering how the league's owners conduct themselves, “It is not enough simply to avoid being found guilty of a crime. We are all held to a higher standard and must conduct ourselves in a way that is responsible, promotes the values of the NFL, and is lawful.”

Brown has already gotten in hot water this year for appearing to threaten the writer of a negative article, for which he later apologized. He also caused a bit of a contoversy with his team after sending a tweet apparently asking to be traded, followed by missing practice the next day.
