I'm not a CEO, and I probably never will be, but I enjoy driving expensive cars to exotic locations as much as any Fortune Magazine ranked businessperson. So, over Memorial Day weekend I dipped out of Brooklyn and headed for the Hamptons in a borrowed 2013 Jaguar XJL Supersport sedan to see what how the 1% feel behind the wheel. Unfortunately (for those of us who don't get to do it every weekend), it was every bit as awesome as you can imagine it would be. Here's a rundown of the highlights: 5 Reasons Why the Jaguar XJL Supersport Is One of the Best CEO Sedans Out Right Now.
It Turns Heads
Driving down Main Street in East Hampton on Memorial Day weekend, most people are accustomed to seeing big European sedans crawling along in bumper-to-bumper traffic. You won't get much notice pushing one of the usual suspects, even if it did cost you close to six figures. But boy is the XJL a looker. During my test drive I had several passersby look at me with astonishment and say, "THAT'S a Jaguar?" It is definitely a startling site in a landscape of underwhelming luxe sedan design.
The L Stands for Long
If you do opt to be driven instead of doing the driver yourself, you will enjoy about five inches more legroom than the busters in the back of regular luxury sedans. But thanks to the sporty suspension tuning, it's still as agile as a cat.
You Can Still Drive the Hell Out of It
Comfort is key, and the XJL Supersport has that in spades. But the real pleasure in driving this car is the low exhaust note it hits when you punch the gas (drive with the windows down for optimum enjoyment). You feel every bit of the 510 horsepower the 5.0 V8 commands (0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds). The power is all muscle, but it handles with deft sportswear precision. The vehicle comes with a chauffeur mode, but it would be a travesty to own the XJL and not get a chance to drive, even if you can afford employ your own pilot (if you can afford this car, it's likely that you can afford that, too).
The Interior Is Nicer Than Your House
Seat massagers, two sunroofs, leather everywhere, headed wood and leather steering wheel, and a center vent and clock configuration that looks exactly like ET-just a few of the features that make sitting in the XJL a better experience than most hotels and restaurants.
You Might Have to Mortgage Said House, but It's Worth Every Penny
Thinking about buying one? Got $120,000 or so to drop on a new whip? Congrats, you're rich! And if you're shopping for a big, powerful, beautiful, fun car to drive (or be driven in), the XJL Supersport is all you. Now, can I borrow ten bucks for lunch?
