Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has violated the terms of his probation and has been ordered to serve jail time after testing positive for THC, according to newly surfaced Dallas County court documents.
Rice was ordered to serve 30 days in jail following the violation tied to his probation stemming from a 2024 multi-car crash case in Dallas. Court records viewed by NBC DFW state Rice tested positive for THC and was ordered into custody on May 19 before being scheduled for release on June 16.
According to the filing, Rice was booked into the Dallas County jail around noon on Monday. The court document also notes that the defendant “tested positive for THC” and violated the conditions of probation connected to the felony racing case. The order further states Rice is to “serve thirty (30) days in jail previously ordered.”
Rice’s legal troubles stem from a March 2024 crash on a Dallas highway in which authorities said he was driving at speeds approaching 120 mph before causing a chain-reaction collision involving multiple vehicles. Investigators alleged Rice fled the scene before officers arrived. Weeks later, Rice publicly accepted responsibility for the incident before eventually turning himself in after an arrest warrant was issued.
"Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole,” said Rice. “I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
At sentencing for that crash, a judge handed Rice the 30 day sentence, five years of probation, and an obligation to cover the victims' medical costs. The NFL also suspended him for the first six games of last season after finding he had violated its personal conduct policy in connection with the same incident.
The timing of this latest jail stint carries real on-field consequences. Rice will miss the Chiefs' OTAs and mandatory mini-camp while serving his sentence, a significant absence as he heads into the final year of his rookie contract, per KWCH.
Despite the six-game suspension, Rice still put together 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns in 2025, though the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs.
