Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia may have staked a claim as the best owner in the NBA after announcing he's lowering the price of some concession menu items at the Footprint Center.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ishbia declared that the Suns organization would implement a new value-priced concession menu. Foods including hot dogs and popcorn will now cost $2 each during games played at the Footprint Center.
According to Ishbia, the change came after he realized menu items were too expensive for some families. He wanted everyone to enjoy their experience inside the arena without worrying about getting a meal.
"Winning starts with our fans," Ishbia said in a statement on X. "When I walk the concourse at games there aren't food options for families who don't want to spend a lot of money. That needs to change, so today we're rolling out our $2 value menu for all home Suns games."
He continued, "A family of 4 used to spend $98 on hot dogs/water/popcorn. Now they can enjoy that same meal for $24. Our fans and community are the foundation of what we do and we will continue to invest in making this the best organization in all of basketball, on and off the court."
Ishbia's announcement was praised by many fans and members of the NBA community, who applauded him for making game attendance less expensive. X users also called for all NBA owners to change their menu prices.
"This is amazing! Good work by the Suns organization," one person tweeted. Another wrote, "Cannot express how awesome this is. Mat, can you please encourage other owners to do the same? Let sports be affordable again. Let families go to games and not break the bank."
Coach Mike Budenholzer approved of the change, saying, "I think it's great. More value for the fans. I might ask Mat [Ishbia] how come it's not $3 so that we can shoot more 3s, but in this case, 2s are good!”
