Pat Beverly Recalls SGA Refusing to Shake His Hand Because of His Anthony Edwards Jersey

Beverley said he loves how “locked the f*ck in” SGA is during the NBA Playoffs and says that's how players should feel.

Patrick Beverley loves how locked in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is against Anthony Edwards in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

On the latest episode of The Pat Bev Podcast, Beverley recalled how SGA chose not to embrace him for wearing Edwards' Minnesota Timberwolves jersey while attending Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. Beverley had nothing but praise for the newly crowned league MVP showing his killer instinct, which is something he said is needed for the postseason.

"I got to Shai after the game to dap him up, he say 'I ain't gonna lie I can't dap you up right now OG'," recalled Beverly. "'You got on that muthafucking jersey.' The jersey I had on was Anthony Edwards. I say, ‘Oh yeah, he's a killer.’ [...] That's the mindset you have to have. Don't even come near me with that jersey-type shit. I respect it. I like it. That's how you have to be."

He added, "I knew where it's coming from. It's coming from a good place, it's coming from an organic place, and he locked in. That's what I took from that, like, oh yeah, he locked the fuck in right now. I love it."

Shai and Edwards are two of the most exciting young players in the NBA, and the debate about who should be the face of the league has been hot. Edwards is a three-time NBA All-Star and has been showing out in the regular season and eliminated the likes of Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Steph Curry in his last two postseason appearances with the T'Wolves.

Shai, on the other hand, has been a bona fide star, having won the NBA MVP award and the scoring title for averaging 32.7 points per game. He also led the Thunder to back-to-back No. 1 seeds in the Western Conference and is a three-time NBA All-Star and three-time All-NBA First Team member.

Both men will face off in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals on Thursday night, where the T'Wolves are facing elimination.
