Kevin Durant is pushing back on the idea that he deserves a statue to immortalize his career with the Golden State Warriors, even after praise from fellow NBA legend Paul Pierce.

The debate began after Pierce said on NBA Courtside podcast that Durant's iconic late-game three-pointers over LeBron James during the Warriors' championship runs were worthy of a statue.

"I'm giving [Durant] a statue of them threes he pulled late on the left side over LeBron," Pierce said. "Give him that statue. Come on, dog, give Durant the statue."

But Durant shut down the suggestion on social media, responding with a mix of humility and humor.

"I passionately disagree," Durant wrote. "A lil mural outside the men's bathroom maybe but even that may be too much. Them banners are enough if I'm being honest."

The former Warriors star went on to explain that, in his mind, certain players represent the franchise more than anyone else and should be honored differently.

"I feel those 3 are what u see when u hear the word warrior," Durant added in a follow-up reply, referencing the core players who helped define Golden State's dynasty. "They should be honored differently than anybody else that played there."

Fans jumped into the discussion, with some arguing that while Durant might not want a statue for Golden State, he absolutely deserves one with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he began his superstar rise.

One user told Durant he should "definitely" have a statue in Oklahoma City and that it was only a matter of time, but he responded with humor.

"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 brother just erase me from the history books," he joked.

Another fan weighed in, praising Durant's self-awareness while offering a more critical take on his career arc.

"Statues are meant for players who built something AND won," the fan wrote. "You built up OKC but never won. And you won in GS but didn't build [anything]."

Durant agreed with a simple reply: "Zackly."

The back-and-forth then shifted to another major legacy question: When Durant eventually enters the Basketball Hall of Fame, which team's jersey would he wear? A fan asked directly, and Durant answered "Team USA" without hesitation.

The response sparked even more conversation, with many interpreting it as a nod to his dominant international career, where he's been one of the most decorated and reliable scorers in Olympic history.
