Jalen Brunson's latest nickname might not have come from New York Knicks fans, but Google.
Fans searching for Brunson's name on Tuesday were met with an unexpected suggestion at the top of the page: "Did you mean: captain clutch brunson."
The auto-suggestion quickly made the rounds online, with Knicks fans treating it as yet another sign that Brunson's legendary playoff run has officially entered mythology.
The screenshot shows the search engine prompting users to search "captain clutch brunson" instead of simply "Jalen Brunson," a nod to the Knicks star's reputation for delivering in the biggest moments. The phrase appears above Brunson's player profile and stats page, turning an ordinary Google search into a celebration of his postseason heroics.
Brunson capped off one of the greatest seasons in franchise history by leading New York to its first NBA championship in 53 years. The All-Star guard averaged 26.0 points and 6.8 assists during the regular season before elevating his game even further in the playoffs.
His crowning moment came in the Finals against the Spurs. Brunson poured in 45 points in Game 5, helping the Knicks secure a 94-90 victory and clinch the championship at Madison Square Garden. The performance earned him Finals MVP honors and further cemented his place among Knicks legends.
But the title run was filled with clutch moments long before that.
New York ripped through the postseason with a 16-3 record, sweeping both Philadelphia and Cleveland before defeating San Antonio in five games. Brunson repeatedly delivered in crunch time, knocking down big shots and controlling games with the poise of a veteran despite facing relentless defensive attention.
Fans have cycled through plenty of nicknames during his rise, such as "Big Body Brunson," "The King of New York," and simply "JB" among them.
Now, "Captain Clutch" might be the next one that sticks.
