Houston showed up in a big way, and Bun B made sure to celebrate it.
The legendary rapper joined community members, familie and local leaders at Hermann Park over the weekend as the city successfully set a new Guinness World Record tied to the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.
Following the event, Bun B shared the moment on social media, revealing the final count that secured the record.
“The actual final count to break the @guinnessworldrecords for most soccer balls touching on one space was 1035! We did it Houston!” he wrote. “No city does it like H Town!”
The record attempt centered around creating the longest continuous line of soccer balls, with organizers initially aiming to surpass 1,000. Participants ultimately exceeded that goal, forming a winding line of more than 1,000 balls along the park’s Green Corridor.
The event was part of a broader initiative led by Airbnb and the Houston World Cup Host Committee to build excitement ahead of the 2026 tournament, which will bring matches to NRG Stadium.
Beyond the record-setting moment, the gathering doubled as a community celebration, featuring appearances by soccer figures like former U.S. Men’s National Team star DaMarcus Beasley, as well as music, food, and programming to engage local families.
Organizers say the effort is about more than just breaking records. The soccer balls used during the event will be donated to youth-focused programs designed to increase access to the sport across underserved communities in the Houston area.
The initiative is part of a larger investment into host cities ahead of the World Cup, with Houston positioning itself as a key destination during the tournament. The city is set to host multiple matches, along with fan-focused events designed to bring the global celebration to local neighborhoods.
