Amanda Serrano Defends Gervonta Davis, Says Hair Dye in Her Eye Made Her Cancel Homecoming Fight

Serrano was supposed to fight Nina Meinke last year in Puerto Rico but canceled after hair dye got in her eye during training.

Amanda Serrano has revealed she experienced the same issue that Gervonta "Tank" Davis had during his fight with Lamont Roach regarding hair grease getting into his eye.

On Sunday, the seven-time world champion shared a tweet on X explaining she had to cancel a fight in her homeland of Puerto Rico because of hair grease getting into her eyes while running. Serrano claimed she had gotten her hair done two days before her bout with Nina Meinke last year in Puerto Rico, and during a run before the fight, the hair grease used in her session burned her eyes, which led to the fight being canceled.

"1 year ago today I had to cancel my homecoming fight in Puerto Rico for the same mistake," Serrano tweeted. "Getting my hair done two days before and then it burning my eyes from a run before the fight. Never again. My natural hair is just fine ladies."

At the time, Serrano was deemed "medically unfit" to fight Meinke. Serrano had said she injured her eye after getting her hair dyed, and Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian supported the claim by adding a chemical that seeped into Serrano's eye while she went on a run.

Davis made headlines this weekend when he took a knee in the ninth round of his fight with Roach and went to his corner to wipe his face down. The fight ended in a draw, which left many upset, but people were more concerned about how Davis didn't get counted for a knockdown for taking the knee. During a postfight interview, Davis claimed pouring water over his head probably caused the hair grease to drip out of his hair and into his eye.

"I didn't want to get caught while my eyes were burning, you can get knocked out like that," said Davis. "So I'd rather take the knee. But I didn't know that you could get disqualified for all that. When he (the referee) started counting, I'm like, 'What the hell?'"
