Aaron Rodgers has revealed how much he dislikes being the center of public attention.
On Tuesday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the newly signed Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback expressed frustration over ongoing media coverage of his personal life. The four-time NFL MVP specifically called out what he views as an intrusive obsession with his marriage and private affairs.
Rodgers said his wife is "somebody who's private, who doesn't want to be in the public eye." Still, he noted, that hasn't stopped the public or media from speculating about her identity and their relationship, while also pointing out the foolishness of people thinking they should have access to his private life.
"The entitlement to information about my private life is so fucking ridiculous and embarrassing," Rodgers said. "Like, hey, do what you've got to do, but try and leave me out of a conversation, sports world, for a month. Try and just leave me out, my personal life, my professional life, try not to talk about me... for the next six weeks, five weeks, whatever it is. Just see if you can do that."
While his frustration is understandable, Rodgers has long been a public figure by choice. He's had high-profile relationships with celebrities like Olivia Munn and Shailene Woodley and has frequently discussed personal and political views—most notably his vaccine skepticism—on McAfee's show.
Rodgers has never shied away from the spotlight, often embracing media attention and trolling it at the same time. But with him getting married and news of a possible retirement at the end of the season, Rodgers looks ready to step out of the spotlight with this request for some silence.
