It's not enough for the Golden State Warriors to bask in their 2017 NBA Finals win and move on. After enduring a year filled with "Warriors blew a 3-1 lead" jokes and shots at Kevin Durant's competitive fire, they are using their position at the top of the league pyramid to mock their detractors.
Durant, who was derided as a "cupcake" by Oklahoma City fans upon his return there this past season, decided to flip the antagonistic nickname back on his haters. Fresh off his Finals MVP performance, Durant was spotted strutting his stuff in a hat with a cupcake logo, with one very important detail changed.
It's a lot easier to go through life when you can laugh at yourself, and in this instance Durant is able to laugh at the harsh nickname and laugh at the people trying to pull him down. Once the picture hit social media, reactions to the style choice poured in, with a lot of people raving about his decision to make a joke out of it.
Not everyone was so charitable with their response to the hat. There's still a sizable group of people who will never be okay with Durant's move to Golden State, and they made sure their side of the story was heard.
Regardless of what your reaction was—and for the record, I'm always here for talking that shit after you win—you should prepare for a reality where Durant refuses to let trash talkers get the best of him. He has spent part of his post-Finals glow roasting his critics on Twitter, adding to a long history of clap-backs against anyone who tries to tear him down.
It's a bad time to be a Warriors hater. If you're preparing to send out what you think is a fire Tweet or a great diss of Durant, just remember he's listening and waiting to put you on blast.
