LaVar Ball On Reality Show Deal: 'I Ain’t No Kardashian'

Could there be a Keeping Up With The Balls in the future?

The Ball family is taking the basketball world by storm, and now that they have signed a new deal for a reality show, some are calling them the new Kardashians. But LaVar Ball, the family's patriarch, doesn’t welcome the comparisons.

“I ain’t no Kardashian. I ain’t no Kris Jenner. We the Balls,” LaVar told TMZ. “Welcome to the Ball era.”

It’s not an entirely crazy proposition. Just last week, LaVar Ball secured a major deal with Facebook (yes, you read that right) to produce a new reality show about the basketball family (“Everybody gonna be on it,” Lavar confirmed, although there are no other major details yet about the project). If you were so inclined to continue down the Kardashian v. Ball rabbit hole, you'd argue that LaVar takes the spot of Kris, the PR mastermind and savvy businessman of the family, and Lonzo, currently the most famous sibling, takes Kim’s spot in the limelight. And don’t forget that the family’s names all start with the same letter LaVar, Lonzo, Liangelo and LaMelo, just like Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall, Kylie and Kris.

Lavar wasn’t exactly offended by the suggestion that his family could take the spot of the reality TV show family, but he also wanted to stress that while the two families might have a lot in common, they differ greatly in style. “I don’t like them, I don’t dislike them. Kardashians are Kardashians. We separate. We ball players. I ain’t following nobody,” he said.

TMZ also asked LaVar about Lonzo’s new sneakers, the $500 ZO2. LaVar considered maybe giving the Lakers a discount on the shoes, but he’s also out here handing out shoes to whoever wants them. Celebrity fans like Jack Nicholson and Denzel Washington will have to buy the shoes, according to LaVar. Just like the rest of us.
