LeBron James Jokes He’s ‘Broke’ and His Net Worth Is ‘Way Less’ Than Reported $1.2 Billion

The Los Angeles Lakers star said his net worth was "way less" than the reported $1.2 billion.

LeBron James came through with an often-repeated but important PSA: Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

The three-time All-Star MVP dropped the reminder during a recent appearance on Complex’s 360 With Speedy, where he set the record straight on his financial status.

“You’ve been getting money for a long time,” host Speedy Morman said, to which James replied, “And I got more to get, you know?”

Speedy informed James that “a quick Google search” showed he had a net worth of $1.2 billion, which was slightly less than what Forbes currently has listed. The Los Angeles Lakers star immediately pushed back, insisting the reported figure was in significantly off.

“Now y’all want me to start lying?” James asked. “Google search is a lie… It’s wrong. It’s less. It’s way less… It’s a couple thousand in my bank. I got a couple thousand. That’s it.”

James was, of course, kidding. Since beginning his pro-basketball career in 2023, the Ohio native has inked multiple nine-figure contracts. He’s also secured lucrative branding deals with the likes of Nike, PepsiCo, and Beats by Dre, and has launched numerous businesses, including the entertainment firm, SpringHill Company, and the sports nutrition brand, Ladder.

James never disclosed his true net worth, but continued the amusing bit by claiming everything he had was “free.”

“I am free for me. Everything. Everything I got on [is] free… I’m telling you,” he said, before highlighting his Richard Mille watch collaboration and Nike “Forever King” capsule range. “This is a LeBron edition Richard Mille… You see my wedding band? It says, ‘My queen.’ Free! Hat, wave cap, [durag]. Free!

“I ain’t got no money, man,” he continued. “My kids got all the money now. NILs (name, image and likeness rights) and shit. They got all the money. They take care of dad now. I’m broke.”

Net worth has become a staple topic in 360 With Speedy. The eponymous host has mentioned the topic during his sit-downs with everyone from GloRilla and Cardi B, to IShowSpeed and MoneyBagg Yo, to Stephen A. Smith and Will Smith.
