When Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner declared for the 2015 NBA Draft, he never considered the decision to be all that difficult. "The decision wasn't really that hard because I knew I would be picked pretty high," Turner said, according to the Star-Telegram. "So I knew this was my opportunity to go." As for his decision to attend the University of Texas at Austin, that's a completely different story.
In a new piece for The Players' Tribune, Turner remembers coming out of Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, and strongly leaning towards committing to the Kansas Jayhawks. Then, on the night before declaring his final decision, a dream caused Turner to have a change of heart. "The day before I was going to announce my commitment, I still didn’t know where I was going. Seriously," he wrote. "At that moment, I thought I was going to choose Kansas—I felt good about it. But then I had a dream that night and I woke up the next morning, and I was like, I’m going to Texas. It was the weirdest thing."
When Turner woke up, he literally received a sign in the form of Texas Longhorns memorabilia. "When I woke up, I rubbed my eyes and the first thing I saw was my Texas pennant hanging above my door," he wrote. "I took it as a sign and followed my heart." In his only year with the Longhorns, Turner earned 2015 Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors, which helped pave the way to becoming a lottery pick.
