Stephen A. Smith has responded to Jaylen Brown proposing that the ESPN personality retire, if he wants the Boston Celtics star to “be quiet.”
In a post shared on X on Thursday (May 7), Smith seemingly implied he would not take their disagreement any further because “folks are looking out for you and you don’t even realize it.”
Stephen A. revisited a previous complaint he had about Brown saying this past season was his “favorite year,” despite winning an NBA championship and receiving the NBA Finals MVP award two years ago.
“A champion and a Finals MVP saying his favorite season is the season he’s home in the FIRST ROUND,” Smith wrote. “This is not about ME. It’s about YOU….and what YOU SAID.”
After the Celtics were eliminated by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, Brown complained about the officiating and called out Joel Embiid for flopping on a Twitch stream. Smith stated on First Take that he had “big-time issue” with Brown directing his gripes at the referees and Embiid when he and his teammates should blame themselves for blowing a 3-1 lead and missing shots down the stretch of Game 7.
Smith went after Brown again over his remarks, concluding, “The first order of business is that he needs to be quiet.”
In a post on X on Thursday (May 7), Brown wrote that he will “be quiet” and stop streaming, if Stephen A. would also “‘be quiet’ and retire.”
