When she steps into the cage for her highly-anticipated fight with Gina Carano on Netflix next month, Ronda Rousey made her intentions quite clear on TMZ Sports’ Open Mike.
“Once they close the door, I’m gonna do everything in my power to kill that chick with my bare hands, and it is up to that referee to stop me,” Rousey said at the 9:35 mark. “If anything, I want to prove to her, I want to show her the monster that she created, and I don’t want her to be proud of it.”
Rousey goes on to seemingly imply that her motivation to win is born out of her desire to earn Carano’s respect, from one MMA legend to another.
“I want her to see, like, ‘Wow, I had no idea that what I started was going to create something like this,’” she continued. “And I want to show her what I am capable of. Whoop her ass, and make her proud of me.”
Carano said she was persuaded to return to the sport for the first time since 2009 after lengthy conversations with Rousey, who was pregnant when she proposed the idea, according to ESPN.
“This is the only fight I wanted to come back for, the only fight that can inspire me like that,” said Rousey, who has not competed in a decade.
Rousey insisted she has no plans to fight again after Carano, and would prefer to have more children. “I want to try for, at least, two more,” she said. “I always wanted a really big family, and I’m in a really fortunate position where I can afford a big family.”
Rousey and husband Travis Browne have two children together. She is also the stepmother to Browne’s two sons, who will be in attendance to watch her fight in-person for the first time.
“I have this window that I’m in now to be able to have some more kids,” Rousey added. “There’s nothing that appeals to me more than that.”
Rousey and Carano will face off on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. The bout will be streamed live on Netflix.
