More People Bet On Browns to Win Super Bowl LI Than Falcons

Those select few who took a chance on the Falcons winning Super Bowl LI are one win away from a nice payday.

Prior to the start of the 2016 NFL season, the New England Patriots were one of the favorites among bettors to win Super Bowl LI, and rightfully so. Over the last 15 years, the Patriots have made six Super Bowl appearances, and won four of those games. Plain and simple, they're a safe bet. The Atlanta Falcons, on the other hand, are a different story.

With just one Super Bowl appearance in the franchise's 51-year history, the Falcons didn't exactly entice many people to take a chance on them. In fact, according to sportsbook operator CG Technology, fans were more willing to take a chance on the Cleveland Browns (final record: 1-15) than the Falcons. On September 6, just two days before the first game of the 2016 season, the Tennessee Titans were the only team to bring in fewer bets than the Falcons. Now, a lucky few are a Super Bowl victory away from reaping the rewards.

"We took a $5,000 bet at 40-1 on the Falcons to win the Super Bowl," CG Technology vice president Jason Simbal said, per ESPN. "And we still win almost a million on the Falcons. That's how few people bet them." If Atlanta turns out to be the team that hoists the Vince Lombardi Trophy on February 5, Simbal will come away with $200,000.

At 75-1 odds in MGM's sportsbook, the Falcons were taken by just 31 people, with the average bet coming in at around $70. If you want to know what those bettors are going to look like throughout Super Bowl LI, just take those guys in that DraftKings commercial, and multiply it by like 100.
