Michael Irvin Says Mase and Cam'ron 'Remind Me a Lot of' Himself and Deion Sanders

Michael Irvin tells Shannon Sharpe on 'Club Shay Shay' that the friendship between Mase and Cam'ron is reminiscent of him and Deion Sanders.

Michael Irvin sees a lot of himself and Deion Sanders in the friendship dynamic between Mase and Cam’ron.

In an interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, Irvin raved about the It Is What It Is co-hosts, while also bringing up the similarities to his longtime friendship with Sanders.

“I love those guys. They're funny dudes, man," he said. "They remind me a lot of Deion and I. That old friendship that's been around a long time. You got those hidden things to mess with."

"They are smart dudes. I love what they’ve done," Irvin continued. "Our people spend a lot of time [in] music and sports, so when you start blending those two, you can grab a good audience. So, I love having that opportunity to talk to us. To talk to that audience."

Before becoming teammates on the Dallas Cowboys in 1995, Irvin and Sanders used to line up across from each other on the field as a wide receiver and cornerback, respectively. During last month's episode of the "Walk & Talk" series on Irvin's YouTube channel, Deion told Irvin that he would have never joined the Cowboys, if it were not for him.

"I wouldn't trade none of it for anything," Irvin said of his time playing with Sanders.

Deion also reminisced about Irvin picking him up to catch the team flight for away games, adding he thought of his Cowboys teammate as a brother.

Irvin's career was cut short in 2000 after suffering a neck injury on the field during the 1999 season that ultimately revealed he was born with spinal stenosis. The five-time Pro Bowler told Sharpe that he was initially unaware of the severity of the injury moments afterward, but became "scared" when he saw Sanders praying over him.
