Kevin Durant has apparently seen some crazy shit this week, but according to the Slim Reaper, none of it is crazier than Kendrick Perkins claiming he was the leader during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
"It doesn't mean your best player is your leader. When I was with the Thunder, it wasn't KD, it wasn't Russ, it wasn't James, I was the one leading," Perkins said during ESPN's NBA Today Trade Deadline Special.
After Perkins alleged while playing alongside rising stars Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden, he was the leader of the group, KD felt the need to weigh in on this comment. "I know this may be a reach but this comment is by far the craziest shit I’ve seen this week," he said on X.
It has been an interesting week for Durant, to say the least.
His name was brought up in possible trades that could have taken place before the NBA Trade Deadline, which passed on Thursday at 3pm. ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported earlier today that a deal involving the Warriors and Heat was "in place," which would have sent Durant back to Golden State and shipped Jimmy Butler to Phoenix. According to Windhorst, the trade never crossed the finish line because of KD.
The Athletic reported Durant and Stephen Curry had a conversation about a reunion in Golden State, but Curry came away convinced that something like that happening was "extremely unlikely." A team source stated the Warriors' front office and ownership group "collectively 'underestimated' Durant's coldness toward a return."
ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported earlier today that the constant trade discussions involving players on the Suns has created a "toxic" environment.
Earlier this week, NBA guard Dennis Schröder compared the NBA trade deadline to “modern slavery,” expressing frustration over how trades overshadow games. In an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, Schröder called the trade deadline a "terrible" event for the league. Not long after that, it was reported that he was on the move again as the Warriors traded Schröder to the Pistons, who also received Lindy Waters III and a second-round pick.
